Type n Walk App

Exactly what it sounds like, this application utilizes both your camera and keyboard functions at the same time! Just load the app, type away (and yes, there is a character counter!), "copy all", and paste into the browser of your choice! I use it for twitter, text messages, email. So far I've averted walking into phone poles, hydrants and steaming piles of dog poop.

Best .99 cents ever spent.

If only the girl in this video had had this app in time...

Gowalla

Go out. Go discover. Go share. Gowalla.
This is the motto of my new iPhone obsession.

This little orange app allows you to "check in" and notify your friends and followers of the cool places you're visiting and invite them to join you. You can find cool items like tacos, mittens and blended coffee drinks when you check in, and swap items in your collection with ones that previous visitors have left behind. So unlike Foursquare, you have a chance to interact with former foes in a fun way, and not just by stealing their "mayorship."

Another aspect that puts Gowalla ahead of Foursquare is that you actually have to BE AT the location to check in. Gone are the drive-by cheaters who "check in" to everything they walk by in hopes of collecting mondo points, or worse yet -- looking cool.

Gowalla also boasts pre-routed "trips" which is a really handy feature if you're in new territory and want to really experience the best a particular neighborhood or city has to offer.

The interface is fun and easy to use. I borrowed this video from the official site just so you can see how easy it is to check in and start sharing:

Gowalla is relatively new too, so chances to "create" new places are high. Get out there and start exploring!

iPhone App: Cam-u-flage

I love using my iPhone on the go to take pictures of "bus specimens". Some are ugly, some are crazy, and some are toooo good to be true! Thanks to a tip from @rockbandit, now I can take my going-to-hell pictures of freaks in peace.

How so?

Well, the Cam-u-flage application allows you to utilize the camera function on your phone without anyone being able to see that you have a target in frame. You can choose from using a completely black screen, to one with flowers or cityscape.

1. Aim the lens in the general direction, tap anywhere on the screen, and 2. snap a photo of his wedgie without that nosy lady behind you knowing you did it.

The tap-anywhere feature is also handy for taking pictures of yourself, you narcissist.

Get this app. Only 1.99!

Happy hunting!

iPhone App of the Week: BloggPress

Sometimes, when I'm bored on the train, I will read old posts from my various blogs. More often then not I find typos or things that just don't make any sense. I'm a blogger, not a writer; big difference.

Well now I can go back and edit those errors with BloggPress.
If you blog, this application is a must! It's only $2.99 and you can try the lite version for FREE.

You can create, edit and post blog entries entirely from your iPhone. In fact, that is how this post is being written. You can choose your online photo album of choice and easily upload and select pictures and video to use! You can access not just one, but all of your different blogs in one place.

Recover your lost iPhone with Navizon

Navizon is a hybrid positioning system combining GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular triangulation techniques. It calculates the geographic location of your iPhone by analyzing the signals from nearby Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers and comparing it against a database of known data points. There is even a feature that allows you to locate your lost iPhone by just sending an SMS text message to it. Take it from someone who knows, losing your phone sucks. And unless you're proactive in prevention you will never get it back.

It's best to download it directly from your phone. Get it here.

iPhone Shells

It's important to set your iPhone apart from the rest. Function and style are really the only things you need to worry about in life. Is this working for me? Does this look good?

Here are my two top choices for quality, great looking iPhone cases:
  • Ultra-Case.com They are durable, exotic, and cheap! Most cases are under $25
Below is a look at their popular Aqua series, and their Carved series.

  • In Case This is what I use personally. They have two basic types: hard & shiny, and hard & matte. The matte ones, like the metallic case shown below have a soft, velvety quality to them. I've had two of this variety and I appreciate the fact that they are slide-resistant and manage to keep very clean. Around $35 each.

Untechnically speaking

I'm a normal person, with a normal job. I'm not rich and I'm not that cool. But I am an iPhone owner, and that makes up for all of those other things.

Let's face it, iPhones have changed the way we communicate with each other. If it's not the iPhone, its a rendition of the same technology in another phone. Google phone, Blackberry, you name it. iPhone is the gold standard to which these other smart phones strive to live up to. But it's not just that iPhones are neat and cool; they guarantee a lifestyle that ensures you will never be left behind. You won't have to worry about a thing. It's like having a Swiss Army knife... but a whole lot better. You can relax knowing that you already have the newest, nicest, latest, greatest everything— all in your pocket.

I don't know anything about what makes the inner workings of this phone/device any better than another one. For all I know, the iPhone is nothing more than perceived value in the shiniest package compared to the rest. But even then, even with only the mere thought that its the grandest, doesn't it kind of make it so?
